RE: Ford 7.3 engine users?

There isn’t a hill I’ve been on that I would be afraid to descend pulling a 16000 lb rv with the 7.3 gasser. Low gear and 6000 rpm is a lot of engine braking. You are a brave lad !!! Can't argue the fact of what a 7.3 gasser will ,or will not do , but I towed a fairly heavy fifth wheel many years with a 7.3 Powerstroke , no EB . Had a few white knuckle experiences coming of some of the hills in Utah, Idaho ,and Montana . Yes learned pretty quickly on how to come down some of those long grades . One example is the one coming from Ennis,MT to Virginia City , MT. It has the runaway ramp if needed . There's no comparison of the 7.3 Gas with a throttle body, and transmission grade braking compared to a 7.3PSD that has absolutely no grade braking functions. Bottom line...I'll take a 7.3 Gas over a 7.3PSD anyday for all towing applications. I will take a 6.7 Cummins over both of them for all tow applications . So what are your impressions on driving a 7.3 gas truck? I driven two different 2022 350 Superduty Laraits 6.7 Powerstrokes 10 speeds, one a friends ,and one my sons . Impression ,okay . As far as ride ,and handling I prefer my 2014 Ram 6.7 Cummins Laramie Megacab . I drove my friends Larait around 90 miles , up Parleys ,and Daniels Canyons here in Utah , both good grades , ran well . Not towing so very hard to compare there ,but obviously a 2022 6.7 Powerstroke is going to pull those canyons very well towing . My 2014 will pull those same canyons the speed limit 65 on both towing , so as far as towing the new Powerstroke has no advantage over the 2014 Ram I have, and the "TOWING I DO " . To answer your question ,first I have no impressions about the 7.3 gas truck , but I am sure it would give me the same impression as any other 350 Superduty ,I prefer the handing ,and comfort of a Ram truck . There is one thing I like about a ford truck compared to the Ram ,and that is the mirrors , sure not enough to switch back . I have driven the new 2022 Ram 3500 Laramie my other son has , those new Fords IMO have nothing over on the Ram truck . I have driven nothing but Ford trucks since my first new one in 93. I recently started to look for a new truck I decided to also look at the Chevy and at the Ram. I really did'nt care for the looks of the Chevy so that was out quick, I liked the looks of the Ram and when I drove it I was impressed with the ride and the comfort of it. The 6.7 has a sound of it's own and the exhaust brake is the best of them all hands down. The mirrors on the 23 Ram in my opinion are as good or better than the Superduty mirrors, and the Ram has power adjust convex mirrors. Im sure you can tell by now that I ended up buying the Ram. So far I am very happy with it.

Best navigation app when towing a 5th wheel

I recently got a new pick up, it has the large display screen and has apple car play. I would like to use a navigation app thru car play to display on the screen. I see there are apps like Hammer or rv life that can do this does anyone have any experience using these apps? I know navigation systems are not perfect. I have a Garmin rv 890 but I would rather use the display in the truck so I don't have to try and find a place for the Garmin. Thanks for the help.

RE: Turning With A Long Bumper Pull Trailer

I think you are overthinking this. You have already have towed the trailer with the truck so you have that experience. I think you will find you are worried about nothing. On any right turn start as far to the left that you can, pull out until your trailer wheels are about even with the road and as you start your turn watch your trailer wheels in your right convex mirror as they start to turn.

RE: towing advise please

You need to weigh your set up before you go spend money on a heavier duty truck.Reality, the problem may be the trailer with too little hitch weight. Too much weight from side to side. Trailer axles that are V'd vs perpindular to the middle of trailer. You might even have a trailer where the axles are too far forward to have enough hitch weight. Even with a 25/35 series truck, your trailer will still want to fishtail sway. Look at what is the cause of the effect before spending money. I've towed over ratings for many decades, most of the time I go slower than I like, due to too little motor. BUT, if everything is set up correctly, I have no towing effects like sway! Marty Except this guy. You should listen to him. Seriously. He knows more about towing than most of the rest of em put together, so far. Like he said, hate to hear you still have the wiggles occasionally after trading up to that big bad HD truck! Or in other words do you have an actual issue with your setup or is this just another perception thing due to inexperience or personal sensitivity? Also, not trying to dissuade you from a bigger truck. It WILL handle the same trailer better than a half ton. The devil is in the details and it’s whether the half ton is “good enough” for YOU. My perception is a bit different than most weekend warriors as I’ve spent 3 decades in mostly 1/2 ton company trucks that I’d use for anything within reason and some things very arguably unreasonable. Sometimes I’d get a HD pickup and it was a luxury for towing, even if they were mostly always gassers. These two posts are correct. I had a 35 foot travel trailer pulled with my F350. When trucks passed by I always had the push/pull sway effect, and it was at the worst when going downhill and a truck passed. I never could get rid of it no matter how I adjusted my hitch. I think you will always have some of it when pulling a travel trailer. It is due to the hitch point is so far back from the rear axle of the truck and the trailer is acting like a lever on the truck when the trailer is subjected to a side force. I solved my issue with a 5th wheel, they do not sway when trucks pass due to the hitch point being over the axle.

RE: Fifth wheel Jerking with gas truck... not as noticeable

EASY!!! It's your CURT hitch. Look at how low the pivot point is on the CURT. FACT it can cause a chucking feeling. Compare to the B&W that has it's pivot point at the height of the kingpin. https://i.imgur.com/sPAIusZl.jpg https://i.imgur.com/5cAtNbbl.jpg I agree, the hitch is the common part that has been used with both trucks.

RE: Central Pa to Delaware shore

You can take 41 south at the Gap all the way to De then follow the signs for 95, take 95 south to Route 1 in De then stay on 1, there are tolls that way. Truck stop on 30 near Lancaster and also one on 41 below Gap, both on the right side heading south. Thank you
